Received 1st dan August 1965. Trained at AIKIKAI HOMBU DOJO in Tokyo in 1969 and then on several subsequent trips. Opened dojo in 1974 in Los Angeles and moved to his permanent location in the Little Tokyo District in 1984. Ordained as Zen priest in 1988. President of the Los Angeles Sword and Swordsmanship Society. Has written over one hundred published articles on aikido and the martial arts for numerous martial arts magazines and other publications. Featured frequently on television introducing aikido. Author of Kodo: Ancient Ways. Produced Aikido Shoshinshu: The Art of Aikido video series in nine volumes. Has published a dojo newsletter titled Aiki Dojo since 1982. Chief instructor of Aikido Center of Los Angeles.
